Shirley & Ray at TVBq Super Kids
Shirley Yeung and Raymond Lam were guests at the "TVBq Super Kids" Talent Contest and as MC and guest performer, Shirley had to dress up as 'Jang Geum' for her song and dance routine. When asked why she has to be at every single kids event, she laughs: "Maybe the company thinks I am right for it, but when I was younger I didn't take part in any such competitions, the most was a poetry recital." Shirley seemed tired as she attended the event straight from filming for new series "Always on Standby".Shirley smiles that she hopes the company can go on to release an "All About Women" album so that she can take part and in the hope of this, she has been practising hard at home.

Raymond sung a song and looked like he had gained a little weight and was paler than usual. When asked about this, he was rather embarrassed as he said: "If I don't need to work, then I will put on weight and I didn't go tanning in the winter. (Are you worried the company or the fans won't like it?) No, I will start filming for ancient series 'Simple Clothed Soothsayer' in May and with the hot sunny weather, I will soon be back to my slim and tanned self!" Raymond has a song in TVB's musical venture "All About Men" that will be released on April 20th, but he says he is feeling no pressure from it because it should have decent sales. His song will be the theme tune to his forthcoming series "Lethal Weapons of Love & Passion" and he will be taking part in the promotional activity, such as appearing on Jade Solid Gold, so he has been rehearsing hard for the live performance. He praises good friend Ron Ng for being a 'Prince of Love Songs' because he can even make the Olympic Games theme sound like a love song.

Golden Sands Costume Tryout
TVB's new series "Flames Dancing in Golden Sands" held its costume tryout in TVB City and cast members including Ada Choi, Charmaine Sheh, Gigi Lai, Moses Chan and Bowie Lam were present to introduce their characters. With familiar faces from "War and Beauty", the scene has now been moved to the 1930's.

Old partners from "War", Gigi and Bowie meet again in the new series, where they play a husband and wife, but they are not very loving as she has to suffer violence from Bowie's character. He laughs: "Last time in 'War', Gigi slapped me in one scene, now I have my vengeance!" Gigi does fight back in one scene though, but will have to suffer nine scenes without retaliation though. Bowie adds: "The director wants it to be realistic, so he has asked me to really hit her. I would rather do it properly to avoid NG's and then having to do it even more times." He says that as he is playing a man who has grown up on the hills, he will get himself a tan to tie in with his character.

Charmaine plays a village girl in the new series from the foot of the hill and has a wish to marry into the village at the top of the hill. Her wish comes true as she marries Kenny Wong's character as a second wife, but then she finds that there are many problems within his family. When it was mentioned that Moses and Sonija Kwok's portrayal of the show in the Sales Presentation was very daring, Charmaine says that she has not seen it so she didn't know. Charmaine's character is a poor girl, so she has to do a lot of manual work and also she needs to make herself look darker, but as she is still filming for "Always on Standby", Charmaine cannot do this just yet. Asked if she is worried about gossip arising from the other female cast members, she smiles: "I am not afraid because we have all worked together before and it should all go smoothly. (Will there be as much scheming as 'War'?) The story is all about virtue and takes place in a farming environment, so it should all be a little more direct and innocent and not as devious as last time."

Moses's character has a lot of scars and he spent two hours in make-up to add the fake scar to his chest. He says that it will not take so long each time as it will depend on what costume he is wearing. Asked if he was afraid of being allergic to the glue, he says he is more afraid of it leaving white marks on the skin when he is filming in the sun. When it was mentioned that he has put on some weight, he admitted he needs to slim down because he gained weight whilst filming for "Rouge and Powder". Asked if he has been approached by a slimming company, he says he has had discussions and he does not mind showing off his body, but wearing a T-back is unacceptable.

TVB Weekly Popularity Awards Ceremony
The TVB Weekly Popularity Awards held a Presentation Ceremony in Tsim Sha Tsui that was attended by all the award winners, apart from Eric Tsang. Other stars such as Andy Lau, Yuen Biao, Shek Tin, Helena Law and Leo Ku were invited to present the awards. Gigi Lai was the big winner of the day, scooping up four awards, including 'Most Popular Magazine Cover', 'Most Popular of them All' and 'Most Popular Female Artiste'. Both Gigi and Myolie shed tears of joy as they accepted their awards. Ron Ng and Dayo Wong both received two awards each, Andy Lau was presented with a special honorary award and Joey Yung was the only singer among the winners. Andy was very pleased with his award, saying that TVB should hold more of these events to encourage their artistes and he feels that the most deserved was Tam Yuk Ying, who has worked so hard for so many years in Children's shows and only just received the recognition.

Notably absent were many of TVB's female leads including Jessica Hsuan, Charmaine Sheh, Sonija Kwok and Maggie Cheung, but the young male stars such as Raymond Lam and Bosco Wong were present to accompany TVB Production Resources Deputy Chief Lok Yee Ling, who expressed her pleasure at the event's success. She indicated that they would try to make this an annual awards event and that the voting was absolutely fair as they were cast by the readers of the magazine and counted by legal professionals. She added that Charmaine was due to take part, but could not make it at the last minute due to a stomach bug.

Ron Ng proved his popularity by snatching the "Male Ancient Drama" award from hot favourite Raymond Lam, which surprised him because he felt that Adam Cheng or Raymond were more likely to have won. "Raymond's ancient look is better than mine because he has a more classical appearance. I have never studied classical literature, so I do not have this air to me." His next goal is to enter the ranks of the "Top Ten TV Artistes". Raymond wasn't unhappy at not winning the award because he thought that it would be Adam who would win. He laughs: "I thought that if I won it, I would have to keep filming ancient costume dramas, so this is a sigh of relief for me!" He hopes that Ron will be able to film more ancient dramas and try some Early Nationalist dramas too.

Myolie was very shocked at receiving the "Female Idol" award because she says to be an idol you have to be very pretty, so she had resigned to becoming a character actor instead. She said afterwards: "At first I thought I would not cry, but this title is too great! I am thankful to my fans for their support and this is a great confirmation for me. Maybe it has been three years since my last award for Most Improved Artiste, so this has made me very happy. There is so little security in this industry, so to have some confirmation is very important." Myolie says she was rather unhappy last year, because she was very lost and had a lot of gossip, but she is lucky to have so many supporters who have helped her through the hard times.

Little Jang Geum meets Bowie and Kelly
TVB will be airing a special "Jewel in the Palace Night" show this weekend and visiting stars of the show Yeo Woon Ge (Cheng Seung Gung) and Jo Jung Eun (Little Jang Geum) were invited to join the filming of the show, together with Kelly Chen and Bowie Lam, who sing the Hong Kong versions of the show's theme tune. During filming, whilst Kelly gave a performance of the extremely popular song, Yeo and Jo both started dancing to it before being interviewed by the show's hosts Derek Li, Sung Chih Ling and Geena Cheung. During the conversation, Bowie asked Yeo whether he could visit her in Korea and taste her cooking, to which she agreed to, saying she would make him a chicken dish and leaving Bowie very happy indeed.

A member of the audience was rather concerned about the education of the young Jo and asked her if she felt the filming was affecting her schooling. She replied that when she was filming, she had to miss a lot of school, but her teachers were very accommodating and let her off.

After the show, the Hong Kong stars presented the Korean guests with some souvenirs. Kelly gave some Korean rag dolls to Jo that her fans had given to her and some Chinese cooking sauces to Yeo, whilst Bowie presented Yeo with some tea leaves and a set of "War and Beauty" DVD's with serial number 4800 and some tea leaves.

At the end of the filming, Yeo and Jo had to shoot some promotional clips, where they had to speak in Cantonese, causing much amusement for the audience as they had to have many outtakes. Finally, they managed to overcome the difficulties and complete the filming.

Jo Jung Eun praised Kelly for being very pretty and Bowie for being very handsome, but when asked if he would be a good boyfriend for her, she shook her head and said that she would not choose his type because he was a little too old for her. Despite having been interviewed by Bowie during his trip to Korea in December filming the short introductions, Jo did not recognise him at first, leaving Bowie a little put out.

Kelly herself is a big fan of the series and her favourite character is of course Jang Geum and her never-fading determination. Her most memorable scene was where Choi Seung Gung and Geum Young were being executed, but Jang Geum cast her hatred aside and pleaded for their lives. Kelly was disappointed not to have met with Ji Jin Hee when he arrived in Hong Kong earlier, but she says his appeal is amazing with so many rich and famous ladies in Hong Kong wanting to marry him!

Charmaine Takes a Dig at her Fans!
Charmaine had made a speedy recovery from her stomach ailment preventing her from attending the TVB Weekly awards event and was back at work promoting jade jewellery, modelling items worth over $10 million. She explained her absence from the earlier event, saying: "I was ill with a stomach problem, probably because I had a raw egg at breakfast, so I wasted the outfit I had prepared before. (Were you disappointed at being nominated for four awards, but not winning any?) There will be award ceremonies every year, it is all about participation and it gives me a reason to work even harder this year. (Has Lok Yee Ling comforted you?) I don't know yet, I haven't been into work. (Will you congratulate Gigi on winning four awards?) Of course, but I haven't seen her yet." She adds that she was not aware of how many nominations she had and she was pleased with the four. Asked where she lost out, she smiles: "You have to ask the organisers. Maybe my fans have all gone on holiday and did not vote for me."

Asked if she has bought any jade in the past, Charmaine says she has not because she feels it is too mature for her, but her grandmothers have handed down family heirloom jade to her that she is yet to find the right occasion to wear, so it is kept in the safety deposit box. Maybe she will wear it for her wedding and make the older generation happy? She laughs: "I wish I could make them happy in this way soon, because they have been waiting for a long time, but I have no plans yet and will just go with the flow! My grandma is already 90 years old and all she wants is for me to get married, so maybe in the next few years."

Despite wearing such valuable jewellery, Charmaine does not feel any pressure because there are plenty of security officers around and she adds thatshe does not buy jewellery herself very much because she will wait for someone to buy it for her. Asked if she has had some bought for her before by a man, she laughs: "Would you believe me if I said no? (Has anyone presented you with a ring?) When I was 21 and had just graduated, someone proposed to me with a ring, but because I was too young then, I just felt very scared and refused him. I haven't had any such gifts since entering the industry."

Maggie Cheung Resurfaces
At the opening of a hydrotherapy skincare centre, Maggie Cheung appeared as a guest and indicated that many ladies like to have hydrotherapy, especially when they are unhappy because it gives a feeling of being loved and pampered.

Having been photographed recently kissing with her old flame Tung Bor, Maggie responded to the press questions, saying that it was normal Western etiquette to give a goodbye kiss after meeting, so there is nothing to explain. As for whether they will get back together, Maggie says it is hard to say because after they split, they barely see each other five times a year and when they do, it is only when she goes to see their 16-year old pet dog. She compares their relationship to that of Alex Fong (Chung Shun) and Sheila Chan, they are not dating, but they will be happy for each other when they find respective partners. Maggie says her parents are not putting any pressure on her, but understand that a girl needs a partner at some stage in her life. Fortune tellers have read that she will find someone in the next three years, but this person will be someone new in her life and no-one she already knows. As for rumours that she has been dropped from new grand production "Flames Dancing in Yellow Sands", Maggie says that this is all just fluff and she declined the offer because she has to do a lot of promotional activity for her Mainland Series "Song of Everlasting Sorrow". Maggie will be appearing in Carol Cheng's legal matters quiz as a guest, together with Dr Tso Wung-wai and Kate Tsui.
